Amelia’s Light Begins With Amelia

Meet the father and daughter behind our mission to support families in hospital during their hardest moments.

From Hospital Halls to Hope: Our Story

I’m Steven Hardy, founder of Amelia’s Light and dad to Amelia - a courageous little girl living with Aicardi Syndrome, a rare and life-limiting neurological condition that has shaped every moment of our lives.

Our journey has taken us through dozens of hospitals, late-night emergency admissions, and months of worry and waiting. I’ve slept in chairs, skipped meals, and held Amelia’s hand through more procedures than I can count. But some of the hardest moments weren’t just medical - they were emotional and financial. How do you find strength when you’re also wondering how to pay for parking, fuel, or even food?

It was in those moments that I realised families in hospital face two battles: the medical one, and the hidden cost of simply staying close. That’s where Amelia’s Light comes in.

“Every family deserves to feel held - emotionally and practically - during a hospital crisis. That’s what Amelia’s Light offers.”

Why Amelia’s Light Exists: Supporting Families in Hospital

Amelia’s Light is fundraising to provide practical support to eligible families during hospital stays in the future. Applications and referrals are closed, and we cannot currently provide funding or practical support.

No parent should sit beside their child’s hospital bed worrying about bills or logistics. Our goal is simple: keep families together and stable when life turns upside down.

  • A future practical-support programme shaped around verified family needs.
  • Future support subject to eligibility, verification, available funds and approval; applying will not guarantee support.
  • Emotional care for overwhelmed parents facing sudden crisis.

How You Can Help Families in Crisis

Every act of support brings light to a dark place. Whether you donate, partner with us, or share our story - you become part of a mission that keeps vulnerable families close to their children in hospital.
