I’m Steven Hardy – a father of three and the primary carer to my daughter Amelia, who lives with Aicardi Syndrome, a rare and life-limiting condition.
Over the years, I’ve faced numerous hospital admissions, including time spent in intensive care. During these incredibly difficult moments, I became acutely aware of a gap in the support available to families like mine. While there are many wonderful charities in the UK, very few can offer fast, practical help in the middle of a hospital stay - when parents are at their most vulnerable, both emotionally and financially.
I don’t want other families to face the same struggles I’ve been through - sitting by their child’s bedside while worrying about whether they can afford the next meal, or the petrol to get home.
That’s why I created the idea for Amelia’s Light - a charity built on compassion, urgency, and trust. It’s my way of turning lived experience into lasting support for others.
